The 23rd annual Fiddlers Along the Arkansas fiddle contest is coming up soon!

Held on July 28th in beautiful Canon City Colorado, this contest has become a staple for Colorado fiddlers for over two decades! In addition to the fiddle contest, the Fiddlers Along the Arkansas also features over 100 crafts booths from local and national craftsman. Come check it out!

60th-Annual National Oldtime Fiddlers’ Contest

From June 18th through the 23rd, the 60th-annual National Oldtime Fiddlers’ Contest is being held in Weiser, Idaho!

This yearly fiddling tradition has been going strong for more than half a century, and we invite you to join many of our COTFA members at the festivities! This year, Colorado’s own Vi Wickam will be a judge at the contest!

Fiddle Workshop with Brittany Haas and Lauren Rious

Brittany Haas and Lauren Rioux will teach a workshop on intermediate-advanced fiddle tunes and techniques. The two fiddlers from widely respected bands (Crooked Still, and Darol Anger’s Republic of Strings) share their extensive knowledge of Appalachian music and experience of being at the forefront of the contemporary string band scene. Rioux and Haas are widely sought out for their teaching expertise, and teach classes, workshops, and at fiddle camps across the country. This will be a fun learning environment before the evening’s performance.

Rolland Fiddle Camp returns in July

July 8th through 14th will be the second Rolland Fiddle Camp. The camp is held at the Hermit Basin Conference Center a few miles west of Westcliffe, Colorado. You’ll learn in a small camp format in a beautiful mountain resort setting. It will be a week of intensive fiddle immersion, study and fun. Rhythm Guitar Workshops

The Colorado Oldtime Fiddlers’ Association is pleased to announce the Spring 2012 Rhythm Guitar Workshops with Sydney Green and Katie Glassman-Salzburg. This is the first in a series of 3 guitar workshops held once a month beginning in February 2012. The workshops are an hour and a half each at a cost of $25 for members and $45 for non-members per workshop.

There are two remaining rhythm guitar workshops for this session to be held on Sunday, March 11th, and Sunday, April 15th, 2012. To read more about the workshops or to register for one or both, click HERE.

Celtic Fiddle Workshop

On February 25th Colorado Oldtime Fiddlers’ Association presented a Celtic Fiddle workshop with Natalie Koob of Breckenridge, Colorado. The fiddlers who attended were there to experience the history and art of Celtic music. They learned the instruments that are usually played and which instruments carry the melody. They were introduced to songs like Killavil Jig, Britches in Stitches and Promenade plus many more. It was an exciting and fun event that was loved by all who attended. National Oldtime Fiddlers’ Contest

The National Oldtime Fiddlers’ Contest is held during the third full week of June in Weiser, Idaho. The contest is in its 60th year! The week long contest begins June 17, 2012 and ends with the National Grand Champion final rounds on Saturday June 23, 2012.
