The Colorado Old Time Fiddlers’ Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with no paid staff – volunteers plan, produce and staff the contests and workshops – and we rely entirely on the support of generous corporate and foundation sponsors.

COTFA’s Board of Directors is composed of business people as well as artists, and includes lawyers, CPAs, musicians and commercial designers.

The Colorado Old Time Fiddlers’ Association (COTFA) was formed in 2002 to promote and preserve this traditional art form in Colorado. We do this by organizing and supporting fiddle contests throughout the state, including the Colorado Fiddle Championships, and holding student workshops.

The Colorado Fiddle Championships, held each year at the historic National Western Stock Show, showcases talented musicians from all over the nation, from the ages of 5 to 85, to play hoe-downs, waltzes, rags and more that have been passed down for generations. In an era when budget cuts have decimated school music programs, the Championships provide a venue for parents and children to meet teachers, for teachers to showcase their students’ talents, and for older fiddlers to share their knowledge with children and children to share their enthusiasm with all of us.

Fiddlin’ a Mile High weekend workshops feature National and World Champion fiddlers flown in from around the country to work with students individually and in small groups, allowing them to expand their knowledge of regional styles and exposing them to masters of the art. Students participate in nightly “jam sessions” and receive both printed and digital course materials.
