DESCRIPTION:For the fifth year in a row\, Vi Wickam and Cody Stadelmaier will be teaching fiddle at the Off the Hook Arts\, Music and Arts Workshop. \nCody and Vi have taught together at the Northern Colorado Fiddle camp for the last 6 years\, and have been friends since they were teens. Cody is a fantastic fiddler\, and a great teacher. She is especially good with the younger fiddlers. \nThis year\, Northern Colorado Fiddle Camp is merging with the Off the Hook Arts and Music Camp to bring fiddling to an even broader group of kids. Magnolia Music Studio is on board as a sponsor of the event as well. \nThe Fiddling Track at Off the Hook Music Camp is all about having fun exploring your instrument. No experience playing fiddle music is required. DESCRIPTION:COTFA is proud to present a special fiddle workshop with the legendary Darol Anger!\n\nOne of the most influential fiddlers alive\, Darol Anger is a popular clinician and Berklee professor with his own online Fiddle School at Artistworks.com. He has helped drive the evolution of the string band through pathbreaking ensembles such as his Republic Of Strings\,  Turtle Island String Quartet\, the David Grisman Quintet\, Psychograss\, the Duo\, and other ensembles. He has played and studied Bluegrass music all his life. More than traditional fiddling\, a high level of ensemble skills are required for Bluegrass Fiddling. \nThe Bluegrass & Beyond Fiddle-ology workshop will probably include (but not be limited to)\n* Soloing:\nPrepared or improvised solos\nPlaying and quoting lead melodies\nQuoting important historical fiddle solos  Uncle Pen\nHarmonizing melodies\n* Backup skills:\nTechniques for playing fills     Generating counterlines harmonies and double-stop textures\nRhythms\, bow shuffles\, and the Chop\nAlso to be included in the Intensive:\n* Playing fiddle tunes at high speeds and difficult keys\n* Intonation exercises\n* “Problem” areas of the fiddle\n* High positions on the neck\n* Other issues that might be diminishing our ability to have fun because they are difficult. \nFolded into the session\, we’ll examine tonal concepts\, phrasing\, rhythm techniques\, the Blues melodic environment\, look at the Dominant 7th Cycle\, and analyze some standard tunes to freshen\, polish and possibly ruin them. \nParticipants can expect to come away with new or improved techniques and insights that will lend to increased understanding\, ease\, and fun when playing Bluegrass fiddle in either an accompanying or a solo role. DESCRIPTION:2025 Scottish Fiddle Competition of Colorado \nSponsored by\nColorado Elks Association Scottish Fiddle Club of Colorado \nThe Competition is for Colorado violinists in grades 3rd to 12th in four grade categories.\nPrescribed tune sets will be performed for judges for cash prizes. \nWHEN: Saturday\, October 4\, 2025\nWHERE: Lakewood United Church of Christ\n100 Carr Street\, Lakewood\, CO 80226 (Please MapQuest this address.)\n(This is on 1st Avenue at Carr Street between Wadsworth and Garrison.) \nTIME: 8:00 to 5:00\nFiddlers will be scheduled for 10-minute performance times\, by category and on a first form-received\, first-served basis.\nThere are four grade categories (see the attached list).\nPre-registration is required. Participants must perform prescribed music and request the FREE sheet music and sound files from the Competition Director listed below. Memorization is NOT required but is strongly encouraged at least for practice. These will be solo performances\, without accompaniment. Students will perform for judges in private. This is not a public performance event\, although the music can be heard from a short distance away. \nCash prizes will be awarded (see the list below). Winning fiddlers will be announced on the evening of the Competition by email. The winning fiddlers will also be publicized. All participants will receive award or participation certificates.\nThe registration form (see attached) must be received by September 27\, 2025.
