Tonya Hopkins was born and raised in the state of Idaho, where she started playing the fiddle at the age of eight. She moved to Texas sixteen years ago, and now resides with her husband and two children in a northern suburb of Houston. Tonya has enjoyed competing in numerous contests all over, and has been teaching private lessons in Texas for many years. She has also been an instructor at a number of different fiddle camps, and has started performing with her sisters on a regular basis.
She in a four-time Texas State Ladies’ Champion, a two-time National Ladies’ Champion in Weiser, and became the first female to win the Texas Oldtime Fiddlers’ State Contest and Convention, which took place this past August. Tonya has judged several contests through the years, and is looking forward to judging in Colorado for the first time.
