Katie Glassman

Katie is one of the country’s most renowned and decorated Texas-style and swing fiddlers, as well as an accomplished songwriter, singer, and a highly sought after educator. Katie is a 4-time National Swing Fiddle Champion and 2-time National Divisional Champion, to mention a few of her accolades. 

For 6 years Katie toured and recorded with the renowned trio, The Western Flyers, winners of 2018 Ameripolitan Awards “Best Western Swing Group” and Western Music Association and the Academy of Western Artists “Western Swing Album of the Year” award for Wild Blue Yonder. 

As an educator, Katie is the founder, owner, and primary instructor at the online fiddle academy, FiddleSchool.com. Since Fiddle School opened in 2018, her thorough online curriculum has given fiddlers around the world the opportunity to learn, improve, and progress in Texas-style fiddling, western swing, and early jazz. Offering over 1,000 sequential instructional videos and countless webinars on fiddling and improvisation, Katie is also an innovator, creating a modern curriculum for a traditional American art form.

We are thrilled to play with the Boulder Symphony Orchestra.  Please join us for an evening of music that explores all aspects of love, including 9 of my own songs, ranging from tunes on my first album to Under the Umbrella to some I wrote at my Ucross Composition Residency.  We will be premiering Eric Moon’s composition “100 Years Later.”  The concert will also be colored with several Nat King Cole Classics like “Unforgettable” and “Smile”.

Maestro Keynes Chen,  normally the concert master of the Boulder Symphony, will rise to the podium to conduct the 60 piece symphony.  He is a very accomplished conductor and you will enjoy watching his passion and command.

We have had the honor of working with five arrangers:  Charlie Mertens, Eric Moon, Phil Norman, Justino Perez and Ernest Ebell.  For a four piece band, this is a much larger team than we are accustomed to working with, so you can imagine what a treat this is for us Snapshots!

Method: My primary focus is to help my students develop a lifelong love of music and fiddling.

I enjoy contest fiddling, but do not believe that it is the end-all be-all of fiddling. I help my students become strong, grounded musicians, with a strong basis in the fundamentals.

I teach the melody of the fiddle tune before getting into variations, and I teach music theory from a practical standpoint.
