Guitar Accompaniment workshop with John Schwab

Denver Guitar WorkshopSunday, March 22

2:00 – 4:00 p.m.

Victor Guitar

1457 S. Broadway, Denver, Colorado

Admission: $30

Space is limited – register early!

Who’s this “john” character?

An old-time backup guitar “specialist” since the 1970s, John Schwab’s been the guitar player in two blue ribbon string bands. He’s performed and taught at festivals and camps all over the U.S. and literally wrote the book on old-time backup guitar. Check it out at Amazon or at www.L-Century.com!

John teaches the same way that he learned: Use the best backup guitar players of the golden age of old-time music – the 1920s and ‘30s – as role models.

What’re we gonna do?

We’ll listen to classic performances from the 78 rpm era, including slowed down versions that will help us decipher the tricks that the masters used. We’ll talk about the evolution of old-time music; style in old-time backup; and chord selection. Finally, we’ll develop a “toolbox” of techniques that you can use for backing up lots of tunes in the keys of G and A.
